FAQ - What is the concentration of antigen specific IgGs in polyclonal antiserum?

IgG polyclonal serum contains other proteins such as albumin and additional immunoglobulins which interfere with protein quantification. Consequently, only a minor part of the total IgG fraction is specific for the immunized antigen. A major part is directed against other unrelated antigens. Therefore, the exact concentration of antigen specific antibodies in polyclonal serum is unknown.
