Oligodendrocytes

Oligodendrocytes are the myelinating cells of the central nervous system (CNS). CNS diseases like multiple sclerosis and various leukodystrophies result in injury to oligodendrocytes resulting in demyelination and impaired neuronal function. Oligodendrocyte dysfunction may also be implicated in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
