The maltose/maltodextrin-binding periplasmic protein is part of the ABC transporter complex MalEFGK involved in maltose/maltodextrin import. It binds maltose and higher maltodextrins such as maltotriose or amylose and is therefore used as a protein-tag for affinitypurification of recombinant proteins.
