The SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein is a very basic protein (pI 10.0) that binds to viral RNA, forming ribonucleoprotein complexes that represent the core structure of the virion. The protein tends to assemble into higher oligomeric forms. The amino acid sequence correspondes to the uniprot ID P0DTC9 and was expressed in E. coli with six c-terminal histidines.
